Filipinos in Germany

As of December 2009, there were 19,000 Filipino citizens living in Germany. Many of them came to Germany years ago to work as nurses or as seamen on German ships. Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), mainly those working on German registered ships, sent back a total of 433,000,000 USD in remittances to the Philippines in 2009.

A large share of Filipinos in Germany are married to a German. In December 2009 this proportion stood at 45%. In the same period, 82% of the Filipino community in Germany was female. Filipinos are spread relatively evenly across the population centres of Germany.

In general, Filipinos are very well integrated into German society and many have become German citizens. Each year, about 750 Filipino citizens acquire German citizenship through naturalisation, a large proportion of these are women.
